AeroGarden Review
The AeroGarden by AeroGrow International is a type of hydroponic container garden system. Actually, the term they use is aeroponic, because the roots are actually suspended in air rather than water, and the product circulates a mist of nutrient-rich water over the roots.
I really enjoy my AeroGardens. I have a couple of them. They work REALLY well, and they only take about five minutes of work per week to maintain. I really like the fact that everything is included, from the light to the watering system and the seed pods. Everything.
Of course, there are a few drawbacks to the system, too. I don't like the fact that you have to use their proprietary seed pods to grow anything. Each seed pod costs about $20, so it's really expensive just for one container full of plants. That brings me to the second drawback, which is the price. A unit is around $300 USD. That is the only reason why I only have two of these units. If they were reasonably priced, I'd have a dozen or more!
Pros:
- Very sturdy construction.
- Extremely easy to set up.
- Requires very little maintenance, only about 5 minutes per week.
- Plants grow extremely well and are very productive.
- Unit is attractive and grows health, beautiful plants.
- Contains everything needed except water.
Cons
- Very expensive. Unit costs about $300, refill seed pods cost $20 each.
- Proprietary seed pods required, can't use regular seeds.
Overall I give this product an 8/10. If the unit itself was under $100, and the seed pods were under $5, I would give it a solid 10/10, no questions asked. But the price does make it very prohibitive, and it is not something that most gardeners could easily afford.
